| Augsburg College’s Student Dining Service draws a crowd with the “Augsburg Food Show” |
| Many of A’viands food and beverage suppliers were excited at the opportunity to present samples of their new products to students and faculty at Augsburg. Students and faculty started to line up almost 20 minutes before the show began to sample everything from free-range chicken tenders, Jamaican seasoned red fish, Louisiana-style pulled pork and fresh fruit smoothies to fair trade and organic coffees. Gilbert Villas, Resident District Manager and Jamison Cross, Retail Manager, both indicated that the show was a huge success. Jamison Cross stated, “this show provides the students and faculty an opportunity to taste new products and then respond to a survey. From that survey, we will bring in those items receiving favorite votes. Everyone is already asking when we will do this again.” |

The University of Wisconsin undertakes a green revolution with the assistance of A’viands, the University’s dining services partner. |
| All Styrofoam dishes and utensils have been replaced with renewable products. A’viands has also added composting to the list. Now, everything that is thrown into the garbage in the dining room is transported to the Western Lake Superior Sanitary District compost center, where it is broken down for reuse.
An important aspect at A’viands is supporting the communities in which we conduct service. As an example, fresh tomatoes and peppers are purchased from Bay Produce in Superior and many of the fruits are from the Bayfield area, rich with apple orchards of many varieties.

A’viands Launches “Naturally”…
Our Commitment to Sustainability
|
At A’viands, sustainability is a way of life and we are always looking for ways to enhance our impact on the environment and help offset our carbon footprint.
We take sustainability seriously, as we believe it is much more than following the trend of “going green.”
We are committed to healthy, sustainable communities and our programs and practices demonstrate that. For instance, our “Naturally” program aims to foster relationships with local farmers and co-ops as an effort to sustain our ecosystem.
Some of our other efforts include the recycling of food waste from our venues to be turned into compost, the use of biodegradable grab-n-go containers made from corn, use of alternative chemicals in our ware washing and searching for alternative fuel vehicles for our facilities. |
